Iran's Assembly of Experts has selected Mojtaba Khamenei, son of the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, as the Islamic Republic's next Supreme Leader, Iran International reports exclusively. The decision was made under pressure from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The development comes days after Ali Khamenei was killed in Israeli airstrikes, with the Assembly having previously considered several clerical candidates including Rouhani and Hassan Khomeini. Secretary of State Rubio separately stated that "the most severe attacks" against Iran have not yet commenced.
