NYT: Second US Aircraft Down Near Strait of Hormuz — A-10 Warthog Crashes, Pilot Safe
According to the New York Times, two American officials who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter confirmed that on Friday, April 3 (14th of Farvardin), a second US Air Force combat aircraft went down in the Persian Gulf region. According to the officials, the pilot — the sole occupant of the aircraft — safely ejected.
The aircraft was an A-10 Warthog attack jet and went down near the Strait of Hormuz almost simultaneously with the downing of an F-15E fighter over Iran. In the F-15E incident, one crew member has been rescued so far, and search teams are still working to locate the second crew member.
Military officials have provided few details about how and the exact location of the A-10 crash, and it remains unclear whether the incident was caused by a technical malfunction or whether the aircraft was shot down.
