Trump Announces 2-Week Suspension of Bombing Iran — Conditional on Hormuz Reopening, After Pakistan Mediation

Trump announced via social media that following conversations with Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir — who requested that a destructive force scheduled to be sent toward Iran tonight be halted — and conditional upon the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to a full, immediate, and safe reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, he has agreed to suspend bombing and attacks on Iran for two weeks. "This will be a bilateral ceasefire!" Trump stated the reason for the decision is that the US had already achieved and exceeded all its military objectives, and had significantly advanced toward a definitive agreement on long-term peace with Iran and peace in the Middle East. The US received a 10-point proposal from Iran and believes it can serve as a workable basis for negotiations. Trump said nearly all past differences between the US and Iran had been agreed upon, but the two-week period would provide the necessary opportunity to finalize and complete the agreement. "On behalf of the United States of America, as President, and also as a representative of the countries of the Middle East, it is an honor that this long-standing issue is on the verge of resolution." Signed: President Donald J. Trump
