Trump Posts Images of Kharg Island Strike; IRGC Threatens to Destroy Regional Oil Infrastructure
Donald Trump posted images of the US military attack on Kharg Island. Kharg Island is one of the most important oil terminals, handling approximately 90% of Iran's oil exports.
Fars News Agency reported that in last night's attacks on Kharg Island, the oil infrastructure of the island was not damaged. Citing "field sources," the report stated that "the sound of more than 15 explosions was heard on the island" during the attacks. Fars News further reported: "The enemy attempted during these attacks to damage the army's air defense, the Jowshan naval base, the airport control tower, and the Continental Shelf helicopter hangar." According to the source, "none of the oil infrastructure was damaged in these attacks."
Mehr News Agency reported that all oil industry workers on Kharg Island are in complete safety and none of them were harmed. Earlier, following the US airstrike on Kharg Island in the early hours of Saturday, Iranian media reported hearing more than 15 explosions in various parts of the island.
Following the US military airstrike on Kharg Island, Iranian domestic media confirmed the incident and reported that during the attacks, the sound of more than 15 explosions was heard in various parts of the island, and thick smoke rose from some areas. Media citing field sources announced that despite the intensity of the explosions, none of the island's oil infrastructure was damaged. Further details about the extent of possible damage or casualties have not yet been released.
The IRGC's Khatam al-Anbia headquarters issued a statement in the early hours of Saturday, Esfand 23 (March 14), threatening that if Iran's "oil, economic, and energy infrastructure" is attacked, it will reduce the oil and economic infrastructure of regional countries to "ashes." The statement was issued hours after Trump's comments about the attack on Kharg Island in the Persian Gulf.
Hours after the US attack ordered by Trump on Kharg Island, Trump's 1988 statements about striking Kharg are being widely recirculated on social media. In those statements, published in US media at the time, Trump said: "If the decision were mine, I would have dealt with Iran harshly. They have psychologically defeated us and made us look like fools. Even if the Islamic Republic fires one bullet at American forces or ships, I would strike Kharg Island hard." He added: "The Islamic Republic cannot even defeat Iraq, but it pressures America. Confronting them would be good for the world."
