Trump Says U.S. Exploring Engagement with Iranian Parliament Speaker Qalibaf, Warns Response to Haifa Refinery Attack Coming Soon
U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Washington is exploring the possibility of engaging with Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Speaker of Iran's Islamic Consultative Assembly. Speaking to the New York Post on March 30, 2026 (10 Farvardin 1405), Trump said it would become clear within about a week whether Qalibaf is prepared to cooperate with the United States.
Trump also reacted to recent Islamic Republic attacks on regional infrastructure, including an attack on an oil refinery in the city of Haifa, stressing that Washington's response would come "soon." He said: "You'll see soon."
Trump warned that the increased U.S. military presence in the region has the capability to inflict extensive damage on Iran. At the same time, he called on Islamic Republic officials to reach a deal "before it's too late."
Trump also claimed that sweeping changes have occurred in Iran's power structure, stating: "Complete change has happened, because the previous structures no longer exist and we are dealing with a completely new set of people."
