Wounded Kharrazi Overseeing Coordination for Potential Meeting with VP Vance, NYT Reports
The New York Times, citing unnamed Islamic Republic officials, reports that Kamal Kharrazi — Iran's former Foreign Minister and former UN representative, who was recently seriously wounded in an attack on his hideout — has in recent days been overseeing coordination related to a potential meeting with JD Vance, the US Vice President.
Kharrazi has long been a fixture of the Islamic Republic's inner circle, serving as an advisor and trusted confidant of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei (now deceased). He is a member of the Expediency Council and heads the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations. During the Iran-Iraq war, he led the war propaganda headquarters, and has throughout his career played a key role in Islamic Republic foreign policy.
