Iran Constitutional Provisional Leadership Council Convenes; Pezeshkian and Chief Justice Assume Interim Authority
Following the confirmed death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Iran's constitutional Provisional Leadership Council automatically convened under Article 111 of the Iranian Constitution. The council — consisting of President Masoud Pezeshkian, Chief Justice Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei, and a Guardian Council cleric — assumes interim duties until the 88-member Assembly of Experts selects a permanent successor. The regime faces the unprecedented challenge of selecting Iran's third-ever Supreme Leader under active military assault.
