Reuters: Damavand Power Plant Supplies Up to 50% of Tehran Electricity; Iran's Top 3 Plants Identified as High-Value Targets

According to Reuters, based on industrial and energy data, the Damavand Power Plant (Shohada-ye Pakdasht) near Tehran, with a capacity of 2,868 MW, is Iran's largest power plant. According to a Mehr News Agency report from November 2025, this plant — which began operations in 2005 — supplies 43 to 50 percent of Tehran's electricity needs. Therefore, if targeted, there is a very high likelihood of widespread power outages, especially in the capital and surrounding areas. Reuters reported that after Damavand, the Kerman power plant in the southeast with a capacity of 1,910 MW and the Ramin steam power plant in Khuzestan Province with a capacity of 1,890 MW rank second and third among Iran's largest power plants.
