BREAKINGSTATEMENT
Trump Says Iran's 10-Point Ceasefire Proposal 'Notable But Not Sufficient,' Holds Tuesday 8 PM Deadline
President Donald Trump told reporters at the White House on Monday that the deadline for Iran remains Tuesday at 8 PM Eastern.
Trump confirmed receiving Iran's 10-point ceasefire response, calling it a "significant step" but said it is not enough to reach a deal. "If they do what they need to do, the war can end very quickly," he said. When asked about the possibility of continued conflict, he responded: "You'll have to wait and see."
Trump also said that Iranian people want the war to continue, stating: "The Iranian people get upset when they don't hear bombing. Because they want to hear the bombs so they can be liberated."
Trump said the only reason Iranians are not out protesting is that "they've been told if they protest, they will be shot." He cited the execution of 19-year-old wrestler Saleh Mohammadi as an example of how the regime treats protesters.
Trump added he is "very angry" at a specific group of people and warned "they will pay a heavy price."
Additional details from his press conference: Trump described successful rescue operations for two downed US pilots, said the US is negotiating with a "third group" from Iran that is "less extreme" and "much smarter" than the current regime, reiterated that Iran "cannot have nuclear weapons," and noted that the US has systematically dismantled Iran's military infrastructure including its air force, navy, radar systems, and air defenses.
