UN Secretary-General Guterres Demands Immediate Ceasefire at Emergency Security Council Session

UN Secretary-General António Guterres addressed the emergency UN Security Council session and demanded an 'immediate cessation of hostilities,' warning that 'military action carries the risk of igniting a chain of events that no one can control in the most volatile region of the world.' He condemned both the US-Israel strikes on Iran and Iran's retaliatory attacks, stating that both 'undermine international peace and security.' The UNSC emergency session was chaired by Britain and convened at the request of France, China, Russia, Bahrain, and Colombia.
